Introduction

This primer is intended for lawyers of all backgrounds who wish to learn or refresh their understanding of key fundamental and practical aspects of international taxation that commonly arise in cross-border commercial transactions and arrangements.

The primer will begin with a short presentation on key international tax terms and concepts and will be followed by a number of case studies that are analysed for the tax issues that arise. In so doing, the intent is to highlight to attendees how an awareness of these tax issues can and should inform any Singapore lawyer when architecting deals and advising on any transaction and arrangement with an international perspective. Making the right choice very much depends on having an awareness of what the tax issues are and how these may be managed.
