Specialist Accreditation Scheme Building and Construction Law Examination Preparatory Course

Partcipants who wish to claim CPD Points must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. Partcipants are reminded to sign in on arrival and sign out at the conclusion of each day of the event in the manner required by the organiser. Participants must not be absent for each day of the event for more than 15 minutes. Participants who do not comply with the Attendance Policy will not be able to obtain CPD Points for attending the activity. Please refer to www.sileCPDcentre.sg. for more information.

 

OVERVIEW

 

The Singapore Academy of Law’s Specialist Accreditation Scheme confers recognition of a legal practitioner’s expertise and experience in a specialised area of law.

 

SAL offers a preparatory course for candidates required to sit for the examination prior to the specialist accreditation. The course is open to all legal and industry practitioners as well. Priority will be given to candidates of the accreditation scheme.

 

It is assumed that candidates and legal practitioners who register for the course have knowledge in Building and Construction law expected of a 5-year PQE legal practitioner. Industry practitioners should have at least a degree is Architecture or equivalent or a BCA Certificate in Construction Law and Contracts as this is not a basic course.

 

COURSE DATES

 

The course in Building and Construction Law comprises 27 contact hours of classroom instruction, conducted over three weekends: Friday (full day) and Saturday (morning) half-day on 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 July 2017.

Module 2 Contract Documents & Risk Management
Module 3: Time for Completion
Module 4: Variations

 

21-22 July 2017

Module 5: Payment Regime
Module 6: Security of Payment

 

28-29 July 2017

Module 7: Subcontracting
Module 8: Termination
Module 9: Handover and Post-Completion Issue
Module 10: Dispute Resolution

 

All modules except the Introduction will be followed by tutorials.

 

Course participants will receive an electronic certificate of participation at the end of the course so long as they attend at least 80% of the course.

 

Candidates are advised to register for the course once their candidature is confirmed to avoid disappointment. Reservations are on a first-come-first-served basis. Reservations are confirmed only when candidates have registered and made payment for the course.

 

Course attendance is not compulsory. Candidates are free to self-study or attend other relevant courses to prepare for the examination.

SAL is SkillsFuture ready!   You can now use your SkillsFuture Credits to self-fund learning which you are interested in. Eligible individuals who attend our approved programmes may apply their S$500 SkillsFuture credit (or any part thereof) to offset the cost of attending the programme. 

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

 

Learners who wish to utilise their SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) to offset the course fees need to note the following.

 

1. WEF 21 April 2017 – Learners can submit their claims 60 days before event start date instead of 30 days

 

2. WEF 19 May 2017 - Learners have one option of payment i.e. amount deducted from learner’s SFC, will be disbursed to SAL directly.

 

3. Learners who wish to utilise their SFC to offset the course fees need to submit a print screen of their SFC balance and notify SAL by emailing accreditation@sal.org.sg on how much they wish to use.  

 

Learners need to pay whatever the balance amount before their registration is processed or confirmed. Onus is on the learner to submit the actual balance of their SFC account to SAL.

 

4. From 19 May 2017 - Should learners need to cancel their claims, they can do so up till the course start date itself. Should the learners withdraw once the class commencement email is sent out by SAL, a cancellation fee of S$ 21.40 (payable not by SFC) will be imposed.

 

5. Learners will be responsible to cancel any submitted SFC claims before the course start date (due to their own cancellation/deference reasons).
