The SAL Professional Values Chapter of the Professional Affairs Committee is pleased to announce the fifth instalment of its Biennial Ethics Event.
This year, the Professional Values Chapter has organised an ethics debate, which promises to be an equal parts exciting and enriching battle of wits: two teams comprising a mix of lawyers from both the private and public sectors will be going head-to-head on the motion:
“This House believes that the adversarial system of litigation is a major obstacle to the development of an honest Bar.”
This will be a meaningful opportunity to engage with issues of legal professional ethics in a fun and lighthearted manner. Jason Chan (Partner, Allen & Gledhill LLP) will be moderating the debate.
The Honourable Judge of Appeal Justice Steven Chong will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Justice Chong will also be presenting the prizes for the best three entries of the Ethics Essay Competition, which was opened to the law students from NUS, SMU and SUSS in August 2019.
At the close of the debate, audience members will also have the chance to vote for the winning team and the best speaker of the debate, and to engage in a discussion with the debaters.
