Legal Informatics – Making Sense of Data as a Lawyer: Fundamental Concepts and Basic Applications

Data is the essential fuel powering the machine learning algorithms that enable tech giants such as Google and Facebook to understand what you are saying and decide what should be shown to you, but how can the data generated by legal practice be put to use?

This session aims to (a) get you acquainted with basic knowledge behind data analytics–-both the theory and how practical applications are developed; (b) introduce practical applications of such knowledge using Microsoft Excel; and (c) provide suggestions on how you might want to start collecting data in a way that facilitates analysis.
