Introduction

The ECC-SAL International Mooting Competition 2018, co-organised by the members of Essex Court Chambers and the Singapore Academy of Law, presents an ideal opportunity for young lawyers to showcase and hone their skills as advocates. Now in its 7th year, the contest is open to young advocates from Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore and South Korea.

The winning team will be offered an all-expenses paid two-week internship at Essex Court Chambers in London, one of the leading commercial sets of barristers’ chambers in England. Awards will also be given for the Best Speaker, Best Memorandum submitted and the Best International team.

Eligibility

Lawyers and legal service officers who have been qualified for practice for no more than three years as at 1 January 2018 are welcome to register their interest. Teams may comprise mooters from the same or different law firms and organisations, with each participating firm or organisation asked to submit no more than two teams. A reserve list of teams will be compiled in the event that more than two teams apply from the same organisation. The organisers will consider all relevant circumstances in each jurisdiction when interpreting the eligibility criteria, and the organising committee reserves the right to exercise discretion for its decisions.
